I feel an extreme pain on my lower abdomen even after my menstrual cycle ends

Monthly, we ladies will experience that time of that month we called menstrual cycle or period. The menstrual cycle is the monthly hormonal cycle a female’s body goes through to prepare for pregnancy. This is when our menstrual blood and tissue will flow from the uterus through a small opening in your cervix and pass out of your body through the vagina. Scientifically, there’s a change in hormone levels that cause our menstrual symptoms. We ladies, know how bad it can get once it comes. You’re strong!

I’ve always had bad period pain on certain days. It would be a blessing if one doesn’t really experience that much pain. The level of pain is different for each individual. Some may not be able to work at all but there are also those who can still do everything like usual like nothing happens. The pain would eventually go away after several days. But this time it wasn’t the case for me as it lasts far longer than I expected. It lasts for a few weeks.

I feel an extreme pain on my lower abdomen even after my menstrual cycle ends

Yes, I was in pain for a few weeks that it affects my daily routine. I couldn’t sit, stand and walk for long. I feel like being stab again and again. Even when I’m driving, I sweat heavily from trying to bear the pain. I had to stay in bad for a few days. Even staying in bed was painful. I sleep in all kinds of positions trying to make the pain go away. I thought it would subside after a few days but it came back even after my menstrual cycle ends like it’s never-ending.

Thanks to my sister for sharing one of her friend's experience, she introduces me to a gynecologist clinic, which later I googled it myself and found one. If you don’t know, they are doctors who specialize in women’s health, with a focus on the reproductive system. They deal with a wide range of issues, including obstetrics, or pregnancy and childbirth, menstruation and fertility issues, hormone disorders, and others.

The pain was no lesser by day and we decided to not wait any longer and went to the gynecologist the next day. She did ask a lot of questions and here let me tell you one thing. Ladies, it is important to take notes of our very own menstrual cycle date. Thank god, I am one who always keeps it tracked and jot down my cycles in my calendar. Now that the technology has evolved, I used an application for that. Easier. Used to write it down manually tho. I’ve been doing it for years since the very beginning.

I went for a quick checkup and did an ultrasound scan. Thankfully there was nothing bad but due to my lacking to take care of my own body, it suffers. I’ve been so busy that I neglected the most important thing. My diets. I’ve been eating less and irregularly for quite some time that my intestines were not in the best conditions. It still wasn’t too bad but I can never imagine the pain I’ve to go through if it were that bad. One of them might be gastric too. You’ll never know until you’ve experienced it.

It turns out that the crampy pain might be due to gas, indigestion, inflammation or infection, or, in women, from menstrual cramps or endometriosis. I'm not a fan of caffeine, spicy food, and all but still, all the doctors still remind me to not be consuming any of them as it may not be good for the recovery. I can't even have tea. Oh, my favorite tea.

The doctor prescribed me some medication and advice me to improve my nutritional intake. Basically, I have to eat well and rest well. The thing is, I have always been someone who takes nutrition very seriously but this time I failed. Being indulge in work and a lot of other things makes me neglect my health. I thought I was okay but the truth is I’m not. It was painful but it’s good to know.

Actually, a few weeks prior to that I went for a Full Blood Count (FBC) at a nearby clinic. The result was okay but my cholesterol readings were a bit, you know different. Still, it was not bad and I’m in good condition. Since then my lifestyle is changed again. Knowing all these helps me improve my general health back again. Seems like this has been a bit too long, I’m going to continue in my next post. I’ll share how I overcome it and what I do to improve my general well-being. Thank you so much for dropping by.

You guys experience anything similar to this?

Stay safe and take care.

  1. I feel the same especially when I got the menstrual pain. Its abnormal pain make me skip school a day every month. Sometimes, I lied down at the rest room at works to make the pain go away. And yeah I agree with you, we need to take care of our health especially in food intake. hehe. Get well soon, Ray.

  3. I have period pain too, and I've had it worse during high school. I'd often took a leave or went home early every once in a month due to extreme menstrual pain. As I grow older, the pain kinda subsides a bit, but now I'd have a difficulty untuk buang air besar due to the pressure from the uterus. I'd feel bloated, gas and indigestion during the first 3-4 days of menstrual cycle :')

Apa-apa pun, health comes first. Take care, Ray :)

    1. I feel you 😭. I have friends who went through similar situations like you. Oh no, one after another. If that's the case, like the doctor said, we should watch our diet. Our diets are playing a major role in it.

Thank you so much. You too take care and stay safe💕

  8. Maybe it's my descendant but the women in our family never experience period cramp. A part of me glad it's the case but a part of me worry as people were saying it's good to experience as it is half the pain of giving birth. Anyway, wishing for speedy recovery for you Ray!

  14. So far macam tak pernah pulak experience yang teruk sangat. Selalunya cramp yang biasa yg macam sakit pinggang tu je. Belum lagi sampai kena jumpa doctor. So maksudnya, we still need to eat a balanced diet lah ya especially bila period? Meaning kalau tak makan properly dia contributes to the pain?

    1. Alhamdulillah. That's great.

Well, most of the times the pain was bearable but at times it gets super painful for me.

Yup, we need to have balanced diet. When we're on our menstrual cycle, we lost a lot of blood and that means we lost calcium etc too. That's why it is important to replenish with good food and you know what comes next. To eat well.

Yep. But maybe not to everyone. Well, it happens to me now. Due to not eating well plus stress and bad lifestyle, this happens. I even have to stop taking caffeine, which is not really a problem sbb I don’t really prefer caffeine in my diets. And another yes, jaga pemakanan baleh bantu untuk hindar this problem (abdominal discomfort).
